May Employee of the Month: Erika McConnell

It’s hard to believe we are in summer already – the past few months have felt long in many ways due to lockdown, but they’ve also flown by! Now that the weather is warming up we know of at least one person who will be itching to get into the great outdoors, especially as we have a little more freedom to do so – and that’s our May Employee of the Month, Erika McConnell. Erika has been with Belroc for more than two years but when she’s not in the office preparing shop drawings and creating quotes, you’ll find her outside exploring with her family. We caught up with Erika to find out more…

Hi Erika! Congratulations on Employee of the Month – how does it feel?

It feels great! I’m happy to be recognized by my peers and proud to know that I’ve been doing a good job.

Tell us a bit about your Belroc journey – what does your role involve?

I’ve been with Belroc since October 2018, so about 2.5 years now. I’m the senior estimator, so my days are spent mostly creating quotes for new business, changes to existing orders and preparing shop drawings.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Belroc?

I think my favourite thing about working at Belroc is that I always feel appreciated for a job well done. The company is very fair and is always treating us to special things such as lunches and treats from Tim’s!

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Finding the time to get everything done! Especially when there’s competing quotes that need to be done at the same time.

What about your life away from work – how do you relax?

I live in Amherstview with my husband Richard, 5-year-old son Trent and our cat, Lenny. I love spending time outdoors and try to go camping as much as possible in the summer. I’m fairly active with outdoor sports as well; running, stand up paddle boarding, hiking and skiing. To relax, there’s nothing better than sitting outside in the summer with a good book and a cold drink.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I’m a pretty lucky person and win a lot. Some examples are a trip to the Dominican Republic, multiple concert tickets, $1000 and a SUP.

I was also able to check running a half marathon off of my bucket list a couple of years ago when I ran the Neuro Half here in Kingston.
